Mary Else Munn RIP

‘Mollie’ to us all

7 October 1921 – 30 July 2020

Mollie was the oldest member of St. Giles’ having been the sole survivor of the congregation that transferred from St. Luke’s Old Street when it was declared unsafe in 1959. She was sacristan for many years and ensured that everything and everybody was in its rightful place. She ran the Sunday School and continued her deep interest in the children in later years, always insisting on sitting right at the back of St Giles to keep in touch with them.

The pew at the back of the church was known to us all as Mollie’s pew. We are inviting contributions to a new pew which will bear a plaque declaring to all that it is for Mollie.

Donating with Stewardship is really easy and completely secure. If you are a UK taxpayer, please confirm that you would like to reclaim Gift Aid on your donation. This will add 25p to every £1 you give. Thanks for visiting!

St Giles Cripplegate PCC

A medieval church at the heart of the Barbican, St Giles' without Cripplegate is a parish church with a long history and an active present, serving the local and wider Christian community whilst hosting a range of arts and cultural events.

Being just beyond the still present Roman city walls saved St Giles' from the Great Fire but also allowed it to be a refuge for non-establishment religious ideas. Oliver Cromwell was married and John Milton (Paradise Lost) buried at St Giles'. Lancelot Andrewes, John Speed and William Shakespeare are among others associated with the church.

Today St Giles' continues to serve the parish of Cripplegate as well as local charities whilst providing an affordable home for musicians struggling to maintain their profile during the Covid pandemic.

Any donations to help maintain the ancient building for Christian worship whilst supporting the arts and the local community will be much appreciated.
