Welcome to our fundraising page.
Roger and I are undertaking a ridiculous (completely bonkers) single day cycling challenge to raise funds for the big house project, a local charity very dear to our hearts.
Everesting is the name given to this very specific cycling challenge. We will be cycling up and down the same hill until the summit of Mount Everest is reached-29, 029 feet high (GULP)
The hill that we have chosen is the Bishop’s Road, in Limavady, it’s steep and unrelenting. We’ll need to ride up it 31 times and cover just over 155 miles. It could take somewhere around 15-17 hours. For perspective, the hardest modern Tour De France mountain stage was in 1983 and climbed almost 22000ft over a total distance of 147 miles.
So, yes-this challenge is completely nuts for recreational cyclists like us!!
We hope to raise lots of money for a fantastic local charity-The big house project.
The Big House Charity provides a voice of hope and encouragement for young people from all areas of the community. Unfortunately the rate of mental illness and the suicide in N Ireland are disproportionately higher than the rest of the UK. Mental illness is estimated to affect around 1 in 6 children at some point in their childhood. It is so tragic that in N ireland we lose approx. 300 people to suicide each year, 5 times more than death by road traffic accidents. Sadly there has been a chronic lack of investment into children's mental health services and poor availablility of counselling and early intervention services.
The Big House charity currently offer free counselling through their listening space. It is very exciting that they are planning to set up a base in the Limavady area to serve our young people.

No matter who you are, or what is going on in your life!
