Daisy runs the Cambridge Half
Raising funds to rewild an area of the Scottish Borders in memory of Jamie Gardiner (1994-2017)
Closing date: 17 February 2022
Story
In just a few weeks time, I'll be running the Cambridge Half Marathon to raise funds to rewild an area of land in the Scottish borders, in memory of my friend Jamie Gardiner (1994-2017).
Jamie had both an infectious love of nature, and an understanding of the threat posed upon it by the climate crisis. This wood will restore natural woodland, improving biodiversity and contributing to global efforts in carbon capture through the creation of healthy woodland ecosystems that capture carbon dioxide both in trees and in the soil itself.
Over the last year, I've worked alongside a group of Jamie's friends to develop this project in partnership with the John Muir Trust - a conservation charity dedicated to the protection and repair of wild places.
