Story

Born in Ethiopia during the rise of the legendary Haile Gebrselassie, Alfie developed a love for running. In 2005 he ran the 5km alongside Haile in Addis Ababa, as Haile  encouraged his nation to join him in the benefits of running.

Having grown up between cultures Alfie has a keen appreciation for what it means to be a foreigner. He has decided to run this year’s Plymouth Half Marathon to raise funds for 2:19’s Resource Book project (SIM UK), set up to write and publish Conversational English Language resources for people whose mother tongue is not English.

Alfie says “I'm excited to support 2:19, knowing myself what it’s like to feel displaced in the UK, making the work very special to me. I love the way 2:19 extends friendship to help integrate people from all nations in very practical ways through teaching English, but most importantly pointing them towards a Saviour whose love has no borders, and whose family is found all over the world, giving a new meaning to being "at home".”

SIM UK/N.Europe

Serving in Mission (SIM) is an international organisation who works hand-in-hand with UK evangelical churches to send and receive cross-cultural workers equipped to reach out with the gospel to communities where Christ is least known. We are committed to the Bible and its teachings, and we work in partnership with churches and other Christian organisations all around the world.

SIM works in a way which impacts the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of the people we serve, through a huge variety of different ministries. In 2018, we are helping to send 152 workers to more than 70 countries. Our prayer goal is to double that to more than 300 by 2025, so more people can hear the gospel. Our work continues because of the generous donations of our faithful supporters, and we are grateful to God for each one.

Run like dem hounds are on your heels, like the last craft beer on in the world sits in a slowly melting bucket of ice on the finish line, like a small child is back in your room chewing on your tickets to a free gig with all your favourite artists.
