Story

In 1956 Wyn sailed for Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia).

1956-63 - she taught history & other subjects at Chipembi Girls School, the country’s leading school for African girls. These girls went on to hold very responsible positions e.g. Government Ministers, Ambassadors & the Higher Commissioner in London.

1963-72   the Methodist Church, to become the United Church of Zambia (UCZ), appointed her Head of a new secondary boarding school in the Southern Province, Njase Girls’ School.  'A demanding & challenging post but a thrill to witness the birth of a new nation, to share in the early struggles & the realisation of many dreams.'

1974-84 - Luckley-Oakfield School, near Wokingham – again 'satisfaction & joy of witnessing a time of growth ... much happy fulfilment'.

Please support the ongoing Educational work, inspired by Wyn's life of Service, including funding the 'Wyn Cornish Awards' and building a new school hall.

There is so much need, every penny will be spent very, very carefully.

Cumnor United Reformed Church

The Hope & Faith Christian School provides early years to secondary education, in a very deprived area of Lusaka, Zambia.

Cumnor URC supports the school through 2 funds.

Epiphany Fund - contributes towards

* feeding programme

* school running costs

Oxford Friends - provides bursaries/grants

* Wyn Cornish Awards

- Talented students are funded through University/College.  Bursaries cover course fees, a laptop, travel/living costs.

- School staff to improve/enhance their own teaching qualifications.

* Start-up grants - Award holders who complete their courses can apply for new business setup support.

* Women's Centre - English, sewing, knitting & cooking classes.

* Land acquistion - The School began in 1 small rented room with just 3 childrens.  500 pupils now attend.  Its long term future is more secure if land and buildings are owned.

* Building works - classrooms, science block, bathroom facilities, water supply are just a few of the projects which have been completed.  The school needs a hall ...
