Story

WE ARE SEEKING FUNDS FOR THE PROVISION OF TEMPORARY ACCOMMODATION FOR ROUGH SLEEPERS IN WOLVERHAMPTON ALL YEAR ROUND!

£10 pays for one bed for one night for a homeless person. Please give now so that we can give rest, warmth and friendship to the street homeless of Wolverhampton.

The Church Shelter is a collaborative project which involves many people from across the city. At Grace Church, we are helping to coordinate and bring oversight to its management.

If you are a UK taxpayer, please confirm that you would like to reclaim Gift Aid on your donation which will add 25p to every £1 you give. Many thanks.

Grace Church Wolverhampton, Wolverhampton Church Shelter

The Wolverhampton Church Shelter provides all year round temporary overnight accommodation for up to 20 rough sleepers per night.

Many people sleep rough in our city every night with no other provision of emergency shelter available. We are now seeking to build on what we have learnt over the last 2 years.

Tackling street homelessness is not just about putting a roof over the head of a rough sleeper. It is about identifying the underlying causes of their poverty and finding ways to empower them to address these issues which are often extremely complex. To get them to open up about these issues takes trust and trust has to be built and earned.

Volunteers at the shelter are trained to build relationship with the users through listening in a non-judgmental manner.  The only way to tackle street homelessness is to bring a holistic approach to addressing all these issues. The Wolverhampton Church Shelter is the start of this journey.
