The vision of Lorica Trust at East Clayton Farm in Washington, West Sussex is to develop a traditional and interactive farm, working in partnership with other organisations to educate, restore, inspire and refresh people coming onto the land. This has been achieved through the conversion of the farm buildings into eight independent living units for young people with profound and multiple disabilities supported by 24/7 care. We have also converted the farmhouse into living accommodation which is currently being used by YMCA Downslink, a charity that seeks to empower marginalised people, re-engaging them with work and training; whilst supporting them to overcome the issues that led to their homelessness and exclusion. The 120 acres of land is being used in a number of ways: conservation to increase the diversity of plant and wildlife and farm activities for residents and visitors as appropriate to their level of disability; this includes livestock activities with donkey walking and care.
