We are all going through something none of us have ever experienced. This is a frightening and uncertain time. But all of us are blessed to still be able to work to provide for ourselves and our loved ones. It gives us an opportunity to support those who are less fortunate. If you are able we would like to encourage our colleagues in East Grinstead to support our local food bank.
East Grinstead Food Bank offers emergency food provision for those in need in the borough. They exist to ensure nobody goes hungry.
So let's pull together to support those in need in our community. Just think of the difference your donation can make however small it is.
We support local individuals and families in crisis who cannot afford to put food on the table, referred to us by local agencies, (such as Children & Family Centres, local primary and secondary schools, churches, hospitals, Citizens Advice, GP surgeries, in fact over 60 agencies can refer clients to us via a red foodbank voucher).
Since we started with a few food boxes in a garage in East Grinstead in December 2012, we have now helped over 7,000 people, currently averaging 30 adults & children helped per week.
As one of our volunteers wrote in December 2018:
‘Hunger doesn’t care it’s Christmas. Poverty, illness, and misfortune doesn’t come gift-wrapped. We can’t solve every problem or right every injustice. But we can lend a helping hand in a crisis’.
We operate under the auspices of the Trussell Trust, who support over 420 foodbanks over the UK.
The guidelines are for Clients to visit 3 times in any one period of a food crisis. However the local foodbank manager has some flexibility.
