"So David, you're going to be 70 on January 10th. Wow, how are we going to celebrate? What would you like as a present, it's got to be something special!"
The trouble is, I don't want things. They just take up space. Or if they don't, they end up in my tummy. So, a plan...I enjoy cycling and planning cycle routes. And (using National Cycle paths) my daughter in York is almost exactly 100 miles away. Sponsored cycle ride to York. But what for?
The amazing Rosemary Breen (then Sr Rosemary) was a teacher in my wife's secondary school. Fran has kept in touch, and via Fran I've got to know her. She now lives in Australia, but spends much of her time on a project called "Living Water Myanmar". We attended an inspiring presentation in Knutsford a few months ago, which made me think it was a cause I'd like to support. You can find more from their Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/Living-Water-Myanmar-186638721679615/. One water tank, £1,200. That's the challenge, will you help?
