South West Community Chaplaincy (SWCC) supports people leaving prison to make a fresh start. Beginning in custody, our help continues through the gate and during those first critical days, weeks and months (and often beyond) back in the community.
We spend time getting to know people in prison and seek to get to understand their hopes, fears and aspirations for the future. Through affirming mentoring relationships, practical help and advocacy, we connect people with relevant services and new opportunities, and inspire hope and a new direction.
Through our small staff team of Community Chaplains and a growing network of volunteer mentors and faith communities, SWCC covers the counties of Cornwall, Devon and West Somerset.
The foundations of SWCC are derived from faith-based principles, not least of hope, compassion, forgiveness, the intrinsic uniqueness and value of every person, and the possibility of change and renewal for all, regardless of what has happened in the past.
