Immersed in the life of Winson Green (inner-city Birmingham, UK), Ash works on the front line of urban poverty and seeks to raise up Christian leaders for our new urban world by leading the Newbigin House team. With wife Anji Barker and son Aiden moved to Winson Green in November 2014 after 12 years living and serving in Bangkok’s largest slum and leading Urban Neighbours of Hope for over 20 years. Winson Green is also where Lesslie Newbigin lived and served after more than three decades of missionary service in India. As well as serving locally, Ash now speaks and trains widely as well as leading the work of Micah Global's International Society for Urban Mission. An inspiring speaker and lecturer, Ash earned a PhD on the rise of urban poverty and is the author of eight books including ‘Make Poverty Personal’, ‘Slum Life Rising’ and ‘Risky Compassion’.
