Bradford Ecumenical Asylum Concern

Registered Charity Number: No.1119463

BEACON is a small charity which addresses the varied needs of the many asylum seekers that find themselves in the Bradford district. We aim to foster a culture of welcome and hospitality alongside the provision of practical support.

The Hosting Project offers accommodation in volunteer households to destitute asylum seekers who would otherwise be street homeless: our guests are not entitled to claim benefits and are denied the right to work to support themselves.

Our McKenzie Friends volunteers support asylum seekers who have no access to legal representation - accompanying them to appeal hearings and supporting them to gather new evidence.

The CHAT Phoenix House volunteers offer a warm welcome and refreshments to people waiting for appeal hearings at the local tribunal centre in Thornbury, which can often be a hugely stressful experience.

The weekly CHAT English Conversation Club offers a place to practise English, gain confidence and combat isolation, in a fun and friendly environment.
